The Explanar Golf Training System is a vital part of the Custom Fit procedure and club fitting in general. Club fitting has evolved over hundreds of years into a highly scientific process that falls into three categories:

The Static Fit:
This is simply measuring the proportion of a golfer’s body and adjusting the lie, length, grip thickness and weight of the club accordingly. Whilst this a great starting point it cannot assess a person’s strength, fitness or ability.

The Dynamic Fit:
In this process the golfer hits shots indoors or out, sometimes off an artificial surface, using strike boards and tape applied to the club head to assess the optimum lie. This process also would include the STATIC FIT measurements in determining the clubs makeup. The limitation of the DYNAMIC FIT is that because the club strikes a mat or Lie Board it cannot always represent striking from turf.

The Dynamic Monitoring Fit:
This is the most advanced evolution of Customisation; it utilises the data of the STATIC FIT and DYNAMIC FIT and then monitors the flight of the shot. Using highly developed cameras it is possible to get scientific feedback about the initial velocity, launch angle, club head attitude, carry, shape and trajectory of the golf ball.

These three methods of Club Fitting all have one significant and vital flaw: they record the swing of that day and not necessarily the student’s optimum swing! Obviously, when Jim Furyk or Eamon Darcy is fitted then they must be fitted in sympathy with their unique style. However, 99.9% of amateur golfers must be fitted within their OPTIMUM BIO-MECHANICAL SWING. If not, the clubs they have just purchased will only confirm their weaknesses, forming them into a habit! You wouldn’t get fitted for a suit whilst suffering from a bad back, so why get fitted for a set of Clubs when in possession of a flawed swing? Surely, we should Custom Fit clubs and suits to match our bodies when we are moving as intended?

See how the setting of the Explanar meets the student’s sternum. If this student was to grip the club at the top of the handle, thereby standing a few inches further back, the Explanar would naturally have to be set to a flatter plane to remain aligned with the sternum and conversely if the student were to grip the long Power Roller™ at the bottom of the handle or use the short Power Roller™ (6 iron – Wedge) the Explanar would be set more upright to accommodate a more upright plane.

Notice how the Plane Sensor™ (bungey cord) indicates that the setting is correct by running across the sternum. If the Plane Sensor™ were to be lower on the chest it would be likely that the Explanar would be set too flat.
